Missing In Action

This blog use to be so much more interesting. I'm so sorry about that. I've lost my blogging mojo I guess. There's a lot going on around here and it's stuff I can't blog about. Yet. In the mean time I will share more art journal pages with you.
I didn't realize I hadn't shown you any this year! What?
You can tell that these first two were about setting goals for the year. Can you see that mine were about exercise? Only now in May am I getting back on track.
This one was my nod to artist Georgia O'Keeffe.
Words with Friends
We were to use underpaper which is the paper you lay under your artwork to wipe off brushes and try out stamps, etc. I had doodled a face on mine and kinda liked her.
Layers you will love. It was also Valentine's weekend.
One of my favorites was to "cover up the good stuff." Essentially, more layers.
Repeating elements. Obviously, I used rectangles.
This is the last one for February and was  suppose to be five layers. I probably have more. I think I'll stop for now and show you March and April in a week or so.

We are traveling to see family tomorrow and so I'll be posting from the road. I'm on Instagram almost daily so join me over there, if you'd like. Talk to you soon!

Lots to say, so little time

Hello there.  How are you all out there?  It's a gorgeous day here and I'm getting ready to go on a fun trip with friends we haven't seen in several years.  So, looking forward to spending time with them again. I have a lot I should share with you and I will, eventually.  I thought I'd post a quickie.  Here are some of my favorite things lately.

I was asked to contribute to a group blog called Grateful Living.  I just started back up yesterday and my post will be tomorrow, Friday the 13th.  I'd love for you to stop by and check it out.  Its challenging me to put into words what I am grateful for, which is a good practice, I think.

I follow the blog of this very personable and fun artist who teaches fourth grade in the Chinatown area of Los Angeles.  I mostly follow her because of her beautiful art journals.  I thought you would enjoy this sweet story she shared recently. It made me smile.

I'm still journaling and enjoying it.  I've started Bible Journaling.  If you haven't run across any of this loveliness I encourage you to check out Illustrated Faith.  Here are a few of my pages.  I'm such a beginner!

Another thing I've started is using a planner.  Its very fun to "dress it up" how you want.  It is helping me be more organized, but I'm also fairly new to that as well.  We will see how it goes.

I hope all is well and you're up to some fun new things too.  I post more often on Instagram if you'd like to join me there!  Have a great weekend!

Documented Life Project - End of Year Update

My first year of art journaling has come to an end. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and have learned so much. I realized that I have only shown you through Week 40.
Week 41 - incorporate polka dots
Week 42 - incorporate stars
Week 33 - sketch what you are looking at
Week 44 - incorporate leaves onto your page. I used leaves to print the background of this page. Can you tell that I was excited about my upcoming trip to Paros?
Week 45 - add a tab. I used some goodies from Paris.
Week 47 - attach a map of your state and document something about the map. I evidently skipped week 46.
Week 48 - document thankfulness in a creative way.
Week 49 - trace a hand. I traced my HH's hand.
Week 51 - use arrows. Somehow I skipped another week.
Week 52 - document your Christmas traditions.
Week 53 - use the first letter of your name.

I'm not sure how we ended up with 53 weeks. I think they started the year with 1 before the week was finished. I am endeavoring to continue this journaling and adding the Documented Faith group to the mix. Thanks for following my journey.

Documented Life Journal Update

It's been awhile since I showed you my journal pages.  I'm still going strong.  Lining them up like this makes me see a style trend.  There have been some challenges that have taken me out of my norm.
Week 32 - Add a fortune
I only had two fortunes to work with and this one seemed the most usable. "You are admired for your impeccable tastes.  Give a gift."
Week 33 - Use your underpaper creatively
This was fun and easy.  I simply ripped my underpaper into strips and then put them back together randomly.  I used the fan from my "niece's" wedding as the tip-in. The dragonfly went well and the quote summed it up.  Now that it's October I'm pretty tired of Summer still hanging around.  It's suppose to be up to 99 on Friday.  In case you're wondering, underpaper is the paper under your projects when you are painting.  It gets the overflow of paint and stamps, etc.
Week 34 - Fill the page with numbers that relate to your week
The photobooth pictures were again from the family wedding. This documented some of the fun things I did with my girl when she was visiting.
The back of Week 34. I just like pattern girls.
Week 35 - Draw, sketch, paint or doodle a face
Ugh.  What a sad, sad face it is.  But, I tried and that's okay.
Week 36 - Use black and white
I didn't think I would like this as much as I did.  I photocopied a "found relative" cabinet card since it was too thick for my book.  I even added a little lace.  I'm living on the wild side!
Week 37 - Use a white pen prominently
This was harder than I thought it would be.  I had to add some shading and wish I would've done the quote differently.  It should've had more prominence.
Week 38 - Draw or add a feather
I did this one with a little different look than my other pages. I found the feather when shopping at Gilding the Lily in September.  I had no previous plan, but kind of love how it turned out.
Week 39 - Use drips and splatters
I didn't love this one, but I did it!
The back side of Week 39.
WEEK 40 - Use three colors you never use.
I wasn't all that excited about this one either.  I ended up making it very simple, but I like it a lot.  I never use brown or red and rarely use orange.  It turned out to be perfect for October.
Thanks for checking these out.  If you want to see some really amazing artists, visit these ladies.

Art Journal Update

I realize it has been a long time since I showed you my art journal pages. Can you believe that it's late July and I'm still keeping up with it? I can't either. I really enjoy it, for the most part. Lately I haven't been loving my final pages, but it's still a fun process. Here you go.
Challenge 21 - add floss to your page
I wanted to use this McCall pattern lady in her housecoat and thought this quote was perfect for this time in my life. Happens every day.
These are just planner pages. I liked the way these flowers turned out with my Derwent Inktense pencils.
Week 23-practice gratitude. I got on a roll and ran out of room. Which is a good thing.
This is just a random page using a card I doodled a year or so ago.

Week 24 - use an old book page. I tried my hand at Found Poetry. I didn't really know what I was doing. I want to try this again.
Week 25 - cover your page with hearts
Another random page that just came together. I love how it turned out.
Week 26 - add a Bible verse that inspires you. Ephesians 3:20 has been my favorite since high school.
Week 27 - add a puzzle to your page. I used Sudoku pages from my plane trip home from visiting family.
Week 28 - add an Instagram or tiny photo. My husband and his brothers who rarely see each other.
Week 30- SMASH style. Items from our kids visit to California.
Week 31- add a pocket. Again I used a doodle from way back.
A random page to remember a hymn we sang on Sunday with one of my IG pictures.
After 6 months I finally got the nerve to paint the cover of my journal. It's kind of fun.
THE END
