Staycation

Last week my husband was suppose to be hiking in the Sierra's for the entire week.  Because of a sudden death, the trip was cancelled.  We decided to make it a Staycation and take some short trips around our area.  DH doesn't have much time for little excursions.  Our first trip was to Julian, California which is known for its apple orchards and pies.
On the way we saw this helicopter transporting an electric pole to another location.  That was a first.
We had lunch at the Drug Store diner. They had all the old cabinetry filled with vintage soda bottles.  We found this one by our table. Sorry for the reflection. I didn't remember that Diet Coke came out in 1983.  Now you know.

When in Julian you have to eat pie.  We had Triple Berry and Apple. Delicious! A lot of stores were closed, even though they weren't suppose to be.  Small town merchants do their own thing, I guess.
On another day we ate lunch at our favorite winery, Ponte Winery.

Later, we even went to watch my cousin's daughter's volleyball game.  They won, yay!
At the end of the week I already had plans to attend the Anaheim Women of Faith conference. If you've followed me for the last 3 years, you'll remember our tailgate parties and the gifts we make our attendees.  My next post will show you all the goodies.

  1. When we lived in San Diego, we used to enjoy taking out bicycles to Julian and riding around to the different apple spots to drink cider.

Thanks for evoking a forgotten memory.
